Interview

Adam, tell us about iM Energy

We’re a local family-run energy consultancy that was established in 2012, we offer a knowledgeable, transparent, and service driven solution to businesses looking to manage their energy spend proactively.

We’re not a typical energy broker with a telesales team; there is substance behind what we do, adding value to businesses through the knowledge of our trading team, allowing our clients to sign below the average market price.

We like to think of ourselves as a trusted partner to our clients, in the same way an accountant or a lawyer may work.

Explain to us the value you add and how it works

As your readers will be aware, current energy prices are extremely volatile. Businesses are in different positions with their contracts and need the right advice to help them manage their renewals. Essentially, we constantly monitor market conditions and time our client’s contracts and renewals with dips in the market, as well as offering other services to secure the best prices and save significant sums of money. Volatility breeds opportunity.

What have been your experiences of the last few months with the energy price crisis?

It has been a hectic time for us, both in terms of market monitoring and supporting clients with renewals ending at different times. Each case is different on its own merit, and contract terms have varied dependant on the start dates, and market position at that time.

Of particular interest has been the Education Sector, and their challenge with keeping their costs down. We saved one consortium of schools in the area of £2,000,000/year (fixed to 2025) against current market prices by correctly timing their contract renewal.

What’s the best advice you can offer a business owner worried about energy costs?

It’s never too early to start looking at your contract renewal, as timing is everything. Also, talk to us. We can look at your specific circumstances, cross reference against the market, and from there to determine the next best steps for you to manage energy cost. Businesses should also look ahead to the end of the Government support scheme (scheduled for 31.03.2023), and what this means for their cost base.
